LASER TATTOO REMOVAL
Q-Switched Nd:YAG Laser
How does Laser Tattoo Removal work?
Laser tattoo removal uses laser light and its photo-acoustic effect to vibrate and gently shatter the tattoo ink under the skin. Various wavelengths of light are attracted to the various colors (ink) in the tattoo. The various colors (ink) of the tattoo act like fuel which absorbs the various wavelengths of light. The absorbed light creates vibration, shattering the ink particles. The photo-acoustic energy that is generated breaks up the ink into smaller particles. If we do not generate enough photo-acoustic energy, the ink particles cannot break up. Over the following few weeks, the broken ink particles are then filtered and cleared (absorbed) by the body just like a bruise.
Different colored inks are broken down at different rates, therefore, a course of treatments is required. Red and dark inks (such as black, dark blue and brown) are the easiest colors to breakdown. More challenging colors such as blue, purple and green can also be treated but may require more treatments.
Unlike previous methods that involved painful dermabrasion (scraping off the top layer of skin), cryosurgery (freezing the skin then peeling away layers of the tattoo) or excision (cutting the tattoo out), the process is completely non-abrasive and won’t cause scarring.
Our medical-grade laser machine works by producing short pulses of intense light that target the tattoo. These pulses pass straight through to the pigment, leaving the top layers of skin unharmed. When the light is absorbed, the ink molecules are broken down, allowing them to fragment into small particles and be absorbed into the bloodstream. The body then safely and naturally flushes these out of your system, causing the ink to disappear.
The procedure has been proven to be both safe and effective, with researchers having determined which wavelengths of light are most effective at removing ink without damaging surrounding skin. Furthermore, our treatment is available at an affordable cost.
How many treatments will i need?
Most clients undertake an average of between six to twelve treatments. You may only notice a slight difference after your first treatment. Most clients may require a few treatments before noticing a significant improvement. Treatments can be performed every 6 weeks – this time is required to allow the area to heal but also to give the body time to break down and absorb the ink particles.
What to expect during & after treatment?
The treatment is not pain free. Most clients describe the sensation as being like “the flick of an elastic band” on the skin
A cooling device is used during your treatment for comfort and to reduce adverse affects
Immediately after the treatment the skin may appear white, which is just superficial heating of the water in the skin (resolves in less than a day or so)
Redness & swelling is normal and may persists for several days
Crusting may occur this would usually appear by the following day and will slough off over the next week or so.
Lightening of the tattoo will be noticed gradually over the next 3-4 weeks.
