PHOTOFACIAL

Pigmentation Removal

PhotoFacial

PhotoFacial is a non-invasive treatment performed with medical-grade Laser technology. It is designed to target certain skin conditions, including pigmentation, fine lines and wrinkles, sun damaged skin, broken capillaries, redness, and rosacea. The process works by using accurately targeted light energy to safely treat abnormal blood vessels or pigmentation. This stimulates the body’s natural healing process to assist in healing the condition, while also promoting the natural production of collagen, which leaves skin smoother and more evenly toned. Treatments have proven to generate substantial visible improvements in the skin without any recovery downtime. Similar to laser hair removal, the machine used to perform pigmentation removal is attracted to dark pigments and cannot be performed on tanned skins that have had recent exposure to the sun or are affected by spray or self-tanning.

What is PhotoFacial?

PhotoFacial is a treatment which can;

  • Lighten/remove darker pigmentation (freckles, sun spots, some birth marks etc)

  • Reduce redness & broken capillaries (rosacea, flushing, high colour, port wine stains, red coloured scarring)

  • Heat up the dermis and stimulate collagen production which can improve skin texture, firmness, pore size and fine lines, increase cellular turnover.

How does it work?

  • Photofacial uses light which scatters under the skin

  • The pigment area in the skin that contains dark pigment (known as melanin) & the red blood cells within the blood vessels act like fuel (or petrol) and absorb this light

  • The absorbed light is then converted to heat

  • This destroys the blood cells and the blood vessels which are then broken down by the body

  • This also destroys pigmented areas, resulting in darkening and crusting of the pigmented area and as this crust gradually falls off, the underlying skin is then lightened.

How many treatments will i  need?

Vascular lesions/Redness

  • On average optimal results will be achieved wihin 4-6 treatments

  • Optimal results will be achieved with commitment to sunscreen use, and avoidance of future sun exposure

  • Re-treatment may be performed as soon as healing from previous treatment is complete (3-14 days apart)

  • Results vary depending on size, depth and location of vessels, and may not be visible till after the 2nd treatment.

Pigmentation/Sun Damage

  • 1-3 treatments, but more may be required

  • Improvement is visible after the first treatment

  • Optimal results will be achieved with commitment to sunscreen use, and avoidance of future sun exposure

  • Retreatment may be performed after 4 weeks as long as healing from previous treatment is complete (redness gone, crusting fallen off)
